Initial Product Concept

  • This project was fairly straight forward as I was still retaining the tobacco pipe silhouette. Seeing as there are many different body styles for tobacco pipes, I had to decide on the three main features which are staples of the design which are the body, the “pod” (bowl), as well as the mouthpiece. From the initial concept I knew I wanted to utilize a disposable pod system in which the user would purchase pre filled pods to utilize with the vape. Pype is rechargeable through a wireless puck charger

Cut-Away View + Orthographic

  • Pype would feature conventional vape components such as standardized coils as well as Li batteries. Pype utilizes subsurface charging contacts in order to wirelessly charge the batteries in its stand. Dimensionally, Pype is roughly 5-10% larger than a conventional tobacco pipe, slightly larger, but not large enough to affect the user experience.

Rough CAD Model

  • I used Solidworks to create a rough CAD model in which I would later render in Keyshot. The body, mouthpiece, and pod are all their own individual components.

CAD Orthographics

  • Below are the orthographic diagrams I created within solidworks off of the Pype model

Physical Model

  • I 3D printed the model out of PLA plastic in order to test both the ergonomics as well as the scale of the model
